Rangitumau is a hill located near Masterton in the Wairarapa region of New Zealand. Rangitumau rises to about 714 meters above sea level and is well-known for its panoramic views over the Wairarapa Valley. The hill is a recognizable part of the local landscape and can be seen from various points across the region. Rangitumau is surrounded by rural communities such as Kopuaranga and Ōpaki, with scenic views and farmland dominating the landscape.

Like many hills and mountains in New Zealand, Rangitumau holds cultural significance for Māori. The name “Rangitumau” is derived from the story of Haunui discovering the Wairarapa,
"Haunui stood up and saw in the distance, at the northern end of the valley, a high mountain standing alone. He concentrated on this mountain as a navigational landmark and named it Rangitumau – meaning ‘standing up to the sky’ or alternatively ‘holding up the sky’" - Source:https://times-age.co.nz/local-news/wairarapas-maori-place-names/

Historically, Rangitumau hill has been a subject of art and sketches dating back to the 19th and 20th centuries, reflecting its importance in both the local scenery and farming communities of the region. Surrounded by agricultural land, Rangitumau serves as a peaceful backdrop and a destination for those exploring the area's natural beauty and has connections to early New Zealand farming communities.
